One of my rare personal projects: I own and maintain a 1090 MHz antenna and receiver that helps track planes flying over Western Pennsylvania. Located just a few miles from Pittsburgh International Airport, the system feeds thousands of ADS-B and MLAT messages per day to FlightAware, FlightRadar24, and several other commercial and noncommercial flight tracking services.

This tiny black antenna (top right) regularly "sees" planes as far away as Ontario and Washington, D.C.
